Migraines are often described as causing extreme, throbbing pain in the head. Only 1% of people escape having some kind of a headache in their entire life. In a year’s time, 90% of people experience a headache. When it comes to migraines, about 17% of the world’s population get them. This means that, at one time or another, 1 billion people are suffering from a migraine. Yet, this condition remains a mystery. Research continues to abound, but few answers are found. So what do we know?
Migraines are neurological in origin making them different than headaches. They have a wide variety of symptoms including:
One thing that researchers agree on is that migraines often occur due to a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. This can be linked to a misalignment of the bones of the upper neck, in particular, the C1 and C2 vertebrae. A misalignment here, even if it is as small as ¼ of a millimeter, can hinder blood flow to and from the brain. This also creates instability in the cervical spine, putting the brainstem at risk for further damage.
Where to Get Help for Migraines
Here at Balanced Atlas and Migraine Center, we have seen success in helping patients with migraines. We have had specialized training to find the smallest misalignments of the neck and then to correct them. We use a gentle method that does not require popping or twisting the spine back into place. Rather the bones are encouraged to move naturally into their original position. Once this is done, many patients in case studies have reported seeing their headaches become less intense and less frequent. Some even see the end of their migraines.
